Carpools will meet at 8 a.m. at the Moorpark College Tennis Courts on certain days.
If you haven't turned in your Off-campus liability forms prior to each date, please bring them to the hike! If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected] Don't worry, the microscopic particles of your home-grown potatoes are not purple. However, once you drench the cells with iodine, the chemical reactions transform the pigment of the amyloplasts into a purple color! You can think of amyloplasts as the golden nuggets found in your food. These are the balls of starch grains which are safely stored within the plant cells of most root vegetables. Starch is the long chain of glucose molecules which is the monosaccharide that flow through your veins. When you eat these POTATOES, you break down these starch grains back into glucose molecules (in a process called hydrolysis) which will then feed all the moving parts of your body... even your mind! Although McDonalds fries may be a little extra salty, just remember no matter what type of POTATO you eat, you will find these golden nuggets.
This Semester, Nature's Finest will soon be releasing its Spring Planting List! Stay tuned for what types of plants you will be able to grow in your garden beds at school, home, or any place with fertile soil. Enjoy this photo of the purple colored amyloplasts alongside the non-purple/transparent amyloplasts which did not get touched by the iodine.
